LGBT Network is seeking dedicated volunteers to join our dynamic Volunteer Corps as part of the Center Team. This growing team of volunteers is the heart of the LGBT Network’s in-center activities, including social and cultural programs, health promotion, and community events. The CPE Team creates a welcoming experience for constituents to help LGBT people to Be Themselves – a hallmark of the organization’s work. This team is responsible for three main functions:

  1. Providing administrative support;
  2. Setting up for programs and events; and
  3. Assisting with special projects.

 


Outreach Team

LGBT Network is seeking outgoing volunteers to join our dynamic Volunteer Corps as part of the Outreach Team.  This growing team of volunteers is the link between the broader community and all of the services, programs, and events the LGBT Network offers.  This team is the face of the organization – they are out in the community conducting outreach, visible and available to meet as many people as possible, so that more people are aware of our services and can be connected to our work.  This team is responsible for two main functions:

  1. Conducting outreach and engagement at community events; and
  2. Posting program and event promotion flyers at community venues.


Resource Team

LGBT Network is seeking outgoing volunteers to join our dynamic Volunteer Corps as part of the Resource Team. This growing team of volunteers is vital to the LGBT Network’s ability to connect community members to crucial LGBT-affirming services and supports such as medical, legal, mental health and other supports to help them to Be Themselves, Stay Healthy, and Change the World. This team is responsible for helping to keep all LGBT resources and referrals current and accurate.

Position Summary

LGBT Network is seeking dedicated volunteers to join our dynamic Volunteer Corps as part of the Center Team. This growing team of volunteers is the heart of the LGBT Network’s in-center activities, including social and cultural programs, health promotion, and community events. The CPE Team creates a welcoming experience for constituents to help LGBT people to Be Themselves – a hallmark of the organization’s work. This team is responsible for three main functions: (1) Providing administrative support; (2) Setting up for programs and events; and (3) Assisting with special projects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

Providing administrative support

  • Serve as Center Greeters at our reception desk, including greeting and welcoming people into the center, answering phones, registering program participants, and providing basic information about LGBT Network and its programs, events, and services
  • Assist with data entry related to contact information, program data, and other database input

Setting up for programs and events

  • Prepare rooms for programs and events, including setting up and breaking down tables and chairs, and moving boxes, equipment, and other items
  • Helping to decorate for special events such as LGBT Youth Prom, Talent Show, and others
  • Assist with keeping the center neat, clean, and organized

Assisting with special projects

  • Help with special projects such as making rainbow ribbons, packaging community organizing kits for schools, preparing folders and “swag bags” for special events, etc.
  • Calling or emailing community members to promote programs and initiatives  
  • Call community members to invite them to make donations to support LGBT Network’s mission
  • Other duties as needed

 Qualification Requirements  

  • Training will be provided, including: Volunteer Orientation and Confidentiality; LGBT 101; Sexual Harassment; and any needed Task-specific Trainings
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Word, MS Excel, and web browsers
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills
  • Ability to lift/move tables, chairs, boxes, and other similar items for program/event set up and clean up
  • Passion and motivation to be a part of the LGBT Network movement to help LGBT people to be themselves, stay healthy, and change the world
  • Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination

Conducting outreach and engagement at community events   

  • Represent the LGBT Network at “tabling opportunities” at various community events such as health fairs, LGBT events, and other community-based events
  • Promote LGBT Network programs and events to attendees
  • Engage community members and collect contact information to link them to programs and services

Posting program and event promotion flyers and/or distributing safer sex materials at community-based venues

  • Travel to community-based venues such as shops, organizations, businesses, etc to post flyers promotion LGBT Network programs, events, and services
  • Travel to community-based venues such as shops, organizations, businesses, etc to distribute condoms and other safer sex materials
  • Assist with the identification of appropriate venues to post flyers and/or distribute safer sex materials
  • Build relationships with venue staff to obtain permission to post flyers

Additional responsibilities

  • Enter contact information collected at outreach events into a database   
  • Help with registration and engagement activities at LGBT events
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements  

  • Training will be provided, including: Volunteer Orientation and Confidentiality; LGBT 101; Sexual Harassment; and any needed Task-specific Trainings
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills
  • Passion and motivation to be a part of the LGBT Network movement to help LGBT people to be themselves, stay healthy, and change the world
  • Reliable public transportation and a valid driver license, as this position requires travel throughout Long Island or Queens
  • Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination

Resource Team

Position Summary:

LGBT Network is seeking outgoing volunteers to join our dynamic Volunteer Corps as part of the Resource Team. This growing team of volunteers is vital to the LGBT Network’s ability to connect community members to crucial LGBT-affirming services and supports such as medical, legal, mental health and other supports to help them to Be Themselves, Stay Healthy, and Change the World. This team is responsible for helping to keep all LGBT resources and referrals current and accurate. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Volunteer opportunities are available at 2 “tiers” or levels of service provide (based on volunteer interest and prior experience):  

Tier 1

  • Contact (call and/or email) organizations and business on our current referral lists to confirm accuracy of services, hours, and other information
  • Update resource lists to reflect any changes
  • Gather information on new resources for the LGBT Community locally, nation-wide, and internationally as new organizations, programs, and/or services are created

Tier 2

  • Solicit and document constituent feedback on the LGBT cultural competence and responsiveness of various programs and services provided in the community
  • Promote our Professional Development/LGBT Cultural Responsiveness Trainings, LGBT Network Certified Program, and the LGBT Chamber of Commerce to relevant agencies and businesses
  • Respond to select HelpLine inquiries (phone calls and/or emails) by providing community members with requested information, referrals, and/or other needed resources

Qualification Requirements:

  • Training will be provided, including Volunteer Orientation and Confidentiality; LGBT 101; Sexual Harassment; and any needed Task-specific Trainings
  • Basic computer skills including MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, as well as web browsers such as Google Chrome
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service are a must
  • Awareness of, and commitment to, the LGBT community
  • Passion and motivation to be a part of the LGBT Network movement to help LGBT people to be themselves, stay healthy, and change the world
  • Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination
