Statement from David Kilmnick, President/CEO of LGBT Network
NEW YORK, NY (March 1, 2020) — New York LGBT Network President/CEO David Kilmnick has released the following statement after Mayor Pete Buttigieg suspended his campaign for President of the United States.
“We thank Mayor Pete Buttigieg for making history in becoming the first out gay man to not only run in a Presidential primary but also win. The significance of having an out LGBT presidential candidate cannot be understated. His impact on history will be measured not only in the long term, but right now as young LGBT kids all across America can dream and hope that they too can be President. Mayor Pete’s embrace of love and country and being out and proud has indeed saved lives. With so much hate and bullying in our world today, Mayor Pete’s courage and leadership to pursue his dreams has brought people of all different backgrounds to see what’s good and possible in the United States. Tonight, Mayor Pete put his country before himself, like he always did as a veteran of our armed forces and is a hero to our entire nation” said David Kilmnick, President/CEO of the New York LGBT Network.
