Meet 2017 Gala Honoree Robert Zimmerman

Although Robert Zimmerman is well known in the Long Island business community as Founder and Co-President of Zimmerman/Edelson, Inc. and for his government and community service, we recognize him for being a strong national advocate for equal rights and the LGBT community.  Robert has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, Bloomberg, Fox News Channel, and Fox Business News advocating for our agenda and taking on some of our leading critics in the nation.  He has also compiled an extensive background in government and community service. Most recently, Robert was nominated by President Barrack Obama to serve as a member of the National Council on the Humanities. He was appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to the New York State SAGE Commission, charged with the most extensive restructuring of state government since the 1920’s. He serves as a member of the Board of the American Museum of Natural History representing New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Center for an Urban Future located in New York City. In 1995, Robert was appointed by President Clinton to serve on the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Presidential Commission on the Arts. He held that position through June of 2001. Robert presently serves as a Democratic National Committeeman from New York.

Robert Zimmerman’s extensive experience in national and international media relations, branding communications and crisis management earned him the 2013 lifetime achievement award by the Public Relations Professionals of Long Island.
