LIGALY named as finalist in 4th Annual Long Island Imagine Awards

Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) was named a Finalist in the Social Impact category in The 4th Annual Long Island Imagine Awards.

The Long Island Imagine Awards was created to offer formal acknowledgement to some of Long Island’s most effective and innovative nonprofit organizations. Last year’s event attracted over 400 attendees from the nonprofit and business communities and an even larger crowd is expected this year.

Winners will be announced LIVE at the awards gala at the Crest Hollow Country Club on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Nominated organizations, their constituents and the Long Island business community are expected to attend.

More than 135 entries were submitted for consideration in 5 categories, including Innovation, Leadership Excellence, Social Entrepreneurism, Rising Star, and Social Impact.  LIGALY is one of four finalists in the Social Impact category.

“We are proud and honored to be have the vital work of Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) recognized for its 23-year history of social impact in improving the lives of LGBT youth,” said LIGALY CEO and founder David Kilmnick.

LIGALY’s recognition focuses on its Safe Schools Initiative, a multi-faceted program that works to end the bullying of LGBT youth in our schools.  Each year, LIGALY delivers hundreds of workshops for students, training programs for teachers, activities and events for gay-straight alliance (GSA) clubs, and coordinating awareness campaigns so that bullying can be addressed in a variety of ways.  LIGALY’s Safe Schools Initiative reaches and engages over 85,000 students and educators each year.

Finalists were chosen by Long Island business professionals during preliminary judging. Members of the Awards' Distinguished Judging Panel selected the Imagine Awards winners from among the Finalists during final judging.

“Being named a Finalist in The Long Island Imagine Awards is an important achievement,” said Ken Cerini, Founder of the Long Island Imagine Awards.  “It means that independent business executives have agreed that the nominee is worthy of recognition for their innovation, leadership, entrepreneurism, and sustainability. Congratulations to all of the Finalists on their achievement.”
