Information Session on Affordable Care Act for Small Business Owners To Be Held on Long Island
November 13, 2013, Garden City, NY – The Long Island GLBT Network (The Network) is hosting a special informational session on the Affordable Care Act for Small Business Owners on Tuesday, November 19th at 7 p.m. at its Garden City location. The Affordable Care Act and the new Insurance Exchange Marketplace will help the 1 in 4 business owners who are uninsured.
“This session and the information presented is critical for small business owners, since 28% of people who are self-employed are uninsured, small businesses currently pay 18% more than large businesses, 70% of small business owners who don’t offer coverage say it’s because they cannot afford it and 72% of small business owners who do offer coverage say they are finding it difficult to supply it,” said Dr. David Kilmnick, Chief Executive Officer of The Network. “We can help small business owners tackle these obstacles by explaining how the Affordable Care Act affects them, screen eligibility, identify their most affordable choices and enroll them.”
The Network has launched Project HELM, Health Enrollment for the LGBT Marketplace, as part of an 18-month grant from the New York State Health Foundation. The Network is a Certified Enrollment Center to help Long Islanders learn about, apply for, and enroll in the New York State Insurance Marketplace under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). As a Certified Enrollment Center, The Network is providing community members with information about eligibility and enrolling individuals and businesses directly in the Insurance Marketplace at all three of its GLBT Centers – in Garden City, Bay Shore and Sag Harbor.
